The 154 km ultramarathon run will retrace the route of allied agents who kidnapped a Nazi general and turned the tide of WWII.

Dr. Phil Maffetone has signed on as official training partner to the inaugural Heroes Ultra 2016. The 154 km ultramarathon is inspired by one of WWII’s finest and most pivotal military operations, as detailed in Christopher McDougall’s book, Natural Born Heroes.

In his capacity as training partner, Dr. Maffetone will be sharing his extensive expertise in endurance, nutrition and human performance with Heroes Ultra athletes and followers through a series of video podcasts to be broadcast from the event’s Facebook page, as well as overseeing the ultramarathon’s race-day nutrition plan. He will be assisting in making the ultra a truly natural foods race with food from local farmers.
